How we started

It began in the Union Bar at the American Club in Singapore. In 2013, Brian left his role as Chief Financial Officer of SkyWest, following its sale to Virgin. As he contemplated what to do next with his career, he happened to meet Dr. Robert (Bob) Kamei, the then Vice-Dean of Education at Duke-National University of Singapore Medical School to discuss using their campus for Duke alumni basketball game watches. During lunch, Bob asked what Brian was interested in doing after the airline, instantaneously he told him education and technology.
When Brian was at SkyWest, one of the biggest challenges that management faced was finding the right talent for their team. What made the problem more compelling for Brian was that he had been an alumni career mentor to Columbia and Duke students for years, and there are plenty of very talented folks that couldn’t seem to find the right job!  These problems intrigued him to investigate the ineffectiveness of the lecture-based education system in developing workforce-ready graduates and what could be done to close the gap.
