I've had the chance to work on the exploration and application of several government grants and felt elated when we succeeded in getting grants worth $62,000 in six months and $200K worth of grants still pending. It was extremely satisfying to be able to see the almost immediate fruitition of my efforts given the fast-paced startup environment.
At CognaLearn, it is always about empowering everyone to shine in their role. I was very excited to be given both the responsibility and freedom to create a predictive model using different regressions techniques that helps teachers predict which of their students might fail a course within three weeks of their class. I believe that this will become an important feature in the product going forward and will help teachers identify students that needed extra help.
Success here is defined within the framework of addressing the needs of the clients and caring for the people. Titles do not mean much in this culture where communication typically happens through conversations across desks rather than email or memos. The working environment is a friendly one and the company promotes teamwork, participation, and consensus.
